Our ambition is to progressively reduce the intensity of CO₂ emissions until carbon neutrality is reached by 2050.
Cementir ambition to 2050
We are committed to Roadmap to Net Zero by 2050, together with the world's leading cement and concrete companies, as member of both the European Cement Association (CEMBUREAU) and the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA).
CO₂ emissions can be reduced by acting at every stage of the value chain - clinker, cement, concrete, construction and (re) carbonation - to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. This will require a series of concrete actions such as optimization of existing technologies to replace fossil fuels with biomass and increase the efficiency of furnaces, the development of FUTURECEM®, the optimization of concrete mixes and construction techniques and the use of innovative technologies such as carbon capture.
Our objectives to 2030
The Roadmap to 2030 has been updated and includes objectives to further reduce Scope 1 CO2 emissions by 36%1 to 460 kg per ton of grey cement, a lower emission level than the threshold imposed by the European Taxonomy. For white cement, a niche product for specific applications, the plan is to reduce emissions by 19%1 to 738 kg per ton by 2030. In 2021 emission reduction targets were validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), and consistent with the goal of maintaining global warming "well below 2°C ".

“Cementir shall be inspired more and more by the principles of sustainability and respect for the environment. This is driven by our sensitivity, our culture, our employees, our investors and the communities in which we operate. Among the many challenges we face, sustainable growth is one of the most difficult.”
